Permission to experience more of the life you're already living

Where the breath returns and the rushing softens.

Anxiety is the feeling that we don't have enough time — that something is about to be taken, or won't arrive in time. The permission is to trust that everything will be taken care of, and to finally taste the life you're already living.

Maybe what we need is permission to experience more of the life we're already living.

Everybody is so caught up in their own stories — the list, the next thing, the thing we're afraid we'll lose, the thing we're afraid we won't get. Anxiety, at its root, is the feeling that we don't have enough time. That something is about to be taken from us, or that something we need won't arrive in time. So we rush. We swallow the day whole the way I used to swallow everything — fast, without tasting, without ever really being in it.

But here is the permission: everything is going to be taken care of. Everything is going to happen in time. You don't have to be afraid.

It always works out. It might not look the way you planned — it almost never does — but it will always be okay for you. That is simply how life operates when you're being intentional, when you're sober in your living, when you're paying attention instead of bracing for the next thing.

So this is your permission slip. Save it to your phone. Screenshot it. Print it and stick it to the fridge. Look at it on the Tuesday when the to-do list is louder than your breath.

Permission to breathe. Permission to take it slow. Permission to trust that nothing is falling behind — because there is no behind. There is only here, and the next small step from here.

The parks will still be there. The coffee will still be warm. The people you love will still be waiting at the end of the day. You are not late. You were never late. You are exactly in your life, and your life is exactly enough.

To breathe.

To take it slow.

To trust it will all be taken care of.

To be here, instead of hurrying past.

The Guides Hold More

This is where the story ends — but not where the city does. The Quiet City Guide holds the routes, the timed itineraries, and the quiet corners I couldn't fit here. It's your official adventure, carried in your pocket.

A Capacity Moment™

Before you reach for the next thing, give yourself permission to stay with this one. One breath. One honest look at the room you're in. The rushing was never progress — it was fear wearing the costume of productivity. You are not behind. You are here. Stay long enough to feel that, and the nervous system softens on its own.

Local Tip

Pick one thing on your list today — just one — and do it at half the speed you normally would. Notice what happens to your breath halfway through. The task still finishes. You arrive instead of crash-land.

I needed this permission slip as much as anyone reading it. After a year of collapse and stillness, I learned the rushing was never about getting more done — it was about not trusting I'd be okay if I stopped. Turns out I was okay. I am okay. And so are you, the moment you let yourself be here.

Questions & Answers

What is the permission slip for?

It's a small reminder you can save to your phone or print — a visual cue to slow down when the day starts running faster than your breath.

Is this only for sober people?

No. The permission belongs to anyone who's been rushing — sober, sober-curious, pregnant, training, or just taking a break. The doorway is the same: presence over speed.

How do I save it to my phone?

Tap the Save to Phone button beneath the slip to download it as an image, or screenshot the card directly and keep it in your camera roll.
